About the INn
Physician and surgeon Dr. Belmont W. McBee and his wife Ida built the house
in 1898; however, they only lived in it for a relatively short time, selling the house to
Ida’s sister Gertrude and husband Joseph Largent in 1905.The house has been
sold more than a dozen times, the most recent purchase was by the firm- Cacapon
Preservation Solutions, LLC in August 2023 who oversaw the adaptive reuse of the
property. Cacapon Preservation Solutions, LLC was established by an architect and
local historian with the vision of protecting and preserving West Virginia’s historical
places for the benefit of current and future generations..

Potomac River
The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National
Historic Park is a 184.5-mile linear park from
Cumberland, Maryland, to Washington, D.C.
Originally, the C&O Canal facilitated trade for
communities along the Potomac River. Today,
it offers historical, natural, and recreational
experiences. The entire towpath is part of the
Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail and
features historical structures, waterfalls, and
stunning views of the Potomac River.
The Paw Paw Tunnel, at 3,118 feet, is the
longest man-made structure on the C&O
Canal Towpath and the Pittsburgh-to-
Washington, D.C. route. Inside the unlit tunnel,
bicyclists should dismount and proceed
slowly due to the narrow path.
